What we collect
When someone proposes a cache, we receive the cache name and type, public-place name, precise coordinates, story, hints, safety confirmations, and an optional image. When someone later logs a real discovery, we receive the trail nickname and field note they choose to provide.
What stays private
New submissions, precise coordinates, photos, and discovery notes enter a private review queue. Uploaded images are stored separately and are not served from a public image route. Nothing becomes a public listing merely because it was submitted.
How we use information
- Review whether a proposed cache and place meet the Trailkin guidelines.
- Contact is not required in the current submission form.
- Publish only approved cache details and spoiler-safe community notes.
- Prevent spam and abuse using short-lived, one-way request fingerprints rather than advertising trackers.
- Investigate safety concerns and maintain the service.
Children and families
Trailkin does not offer child accounts and does not ask children for names, email addresses, school information, or precise personal location. A person submitting must be 18 or older, or complete the submission with a parent or guardian. Please do not place identifying information about a child in any free-text field or image.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell personal information. We do not use submitted material for behavioral advertising. Information may be handled by infrastructure providers that operate the site and storage, or disclosed when required to address legal or safety obligations.
Retention and choices
We keep pending and approved material only as reasonably needed for review, operation, safety, and recordkeeping. You can request review, correction, or deletion using the submission code shown after sending your idea. Email privacy@makejoylabs.org.
